I am a huge Phil Hale fan, I love his art. I have been waiting for a larger sized book to come out containing a collection of his art and I get this...
This book contains basically one painting(its not one painting, its just the same head over and over again and not really redesigned that differently). The art work contained in this book is very un-inspirational. What is up with the lame paintings with random blue and purple brush strokes. Looks like Hale lost his inspiration and desire to paint and was looking to make a quick buck.
I am all for artists making whatever type of art they desire, they don't always have to appeal to their fans but that being said, the collection of work here is very drab and nothing really stands out as Oh my god, I wish I could paint that, like his older work does.

Only one suitable word for this ART BOOK:
SUCKS!
Extremely Disappointing.
What a talented artist discourages his fans or just buyers with that's said the same painting in different sizes over 60 pages?
Please love the earth and don't waste papers on this kind of art!
We have lots of hungry people in Africa and Middle East and we can really save a huge money for this meaningless printing and purchasing!
Please, for God's sake! We have so many talented artists in this world and they can make every effort for their art seriously!
Even a genius needs to work hard for every penny, so please don't fool people.

I have been following Phil Hales work for a very long time and he is among my favorite living painters. It has been interesting to see the evolution of his work. This book however was a bit disappointing. Not because of the style but because every page of the book with the exception of 3 images is virtually identical to the cover. It would have been nice to have known that or to simply have waited for Mr. Hale to have created some varied work before publishing 60 pages of the same painting.

URGE OURSELVES UNDER arrived at my abode today, and it is worth every penny! Hauntingly beautiful series of paintings. The cover is exhibitive of what the book contains; this means there is very little figure work, which may not be to the liking of some. Being a painter myself and a longtime follower of Hale's work, I for one I am quite pleased with it.
